The Autopsy

I observe them on the autopsy table

“You’ve all been the basis of my life for as long back as I can recollect”

Now their chests are spread open, organs being weighed

Stagnant And stiff

Examiners look for cancer, aberrations, enlarged hearts but I know what annihilated them

It was antipsychotics and Dr. Ali

Now that they have been quelled the screaming and in my skull has silenced

I leave

I head outside to smoke a cigarette

“My old companions, I’ll miss you”

I take a long drag because I know that’s a lie
